Tips on Driving on Majorca

There are some good bus services on Majorca, but no trains. Having tried to navigate my way around the island on public transport I would strongly recommend hiring a car to get to places off the beaten track and not be tied to bus timetables.

The Mallorcans tend to drive very fast so never try to compete with them in the fast lanes and stay at a speed you are happy with and remember that you always drive on the. Here are the driving speed regulations:

In Small Villages the speed limit is 40 kph
On the Main Roads the speed limit is 100 kph
On Motorways the speed limit is 120 kph
On City Roads the speed limit is 60 kph
On Minor Roads the speed limit is 90 kph

When driving through busy built-up areas, look for pedestrian crossings which are usually a few metres past roundabout exits as parking is permitted right up to the crossing which can cause restrictions of the view of the driver of people wanting to cross.

You can get from A to B pretty quickly in Majorca which has an area of 3,640 km2, surrounded by a coastline of 555 km, with a distance from north to south of 100 km and from east to west of 70 km.
