Bilbao Airport Overview
Bilbao Airport is located 9 km north of Bilbao (home to the famous Guggenheim Museum) in the municipality of Loiu in Spain's Basque Country.
Bilbao Airport was designed by the famous Architect Santiago Calatrava. The terminal has two symmetrical "wings" and a sharp tip at its centre which has given the building the nickname of "La Paloma" (the Dove). White concrete and glass has been used with light, open spaces distributed on two floors. The upper one is for departures (check-in counters and gates) and the ground floor for arrivals.
The airport's passenger terminal has recently been extended with the creation of a new 3,500 square metres arrivals lobby.
In 2011 4,045,613 passengers passed through Bilbao Airport which handled 54,432 flights.
