Alicante Airport Guide

This is the 6th largest airport (in terms of passenger traffic) in Spain. Laying just nine kilometres to the south west of the centre of alicante and is the best airport to fly into when you are paying a visit to the main tourist resorts such as Benidorm (40km), Denia (75km), Calpe (60km), Torrevieja (45km) and all destinations throughout the Costa Blanca.

Although you can catch buses to these resorts from the airport, you also have eleven car hire companies to choose from and you can pre-book your vehicle before you fly to save time. Booking in advance also often secures the best deal.

The new terminal opened last March. It is a very light and airy L shaped building made almost entirely of glass with a ceiling which I would describe as "boats in full sail" with large skylights at the sides. It is six times the combined areas of the old Terminals 1 and 2.

It has six floors with a check in/departures area with 15 telescopic air bridges and debarkation areas as well as a good number of shops and places to get something to eat and drink plus a VIP lounge on the top floor.

When you arrive at the airport you will be led straight into the baggage reclaim area and after collecting your bags will pass customs control and get to the main arrivals hall/area (there is only one door) where you can meet anybody waiting for you.

If you have hired a car, then look to the right of the principal arrival hall where you will find their counters. Once you have picked up your keys, you can collect your car from the large parking garage opposite to the terminal building.

There are good bus services but no trains. If you need to catch a rail link then take the C6 bus to the mainline station in the city centre (cost around €2,60 single fare). As a rough guide, a taxi for the same journey costs in the region of €19-25 (it can carry up to 4 passengers and .the fare varies depending on the time of day you are travelling).

You can find stops for local buses to Alicante itself, Torrevieja, Benidorm, Mucria, Denia, Elche and Santa Pola just outside the (Level 2) Departure hall.

In 2015 the airport handled 10.574.484 passengers with 74.084 flight operations (arrivals and departures). With the opening of the new terminal its capacity has increased to 20 million passengers a year.

International passenger flights make up 80% of the total, with most of the travellers from the United Kingdom, Germany and the Netherlands. Madrid, Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca are the three most popular domestic destinations.

Flying nowadays can be a stressful experience, and as you can see from these figures that thisis a busy airport. This guide is updated all the time and we have put it together in a way which we hope makes your journey that bit easier.
