San Sebastian Airport is near Hondarribia Town, Bay of Biscay which is 22 kilometres north - east, about a 20 minute journey. Thi is the main airport to use if you are travelling to the Basque Region in North of Spain. It´s also a great airport for travel to Biarritz and other areas near southwest France's Atlantic coast.
The city of San Sebastian is divided into Old Town (Parte Vieja), Gros and Centro. and boasts one of the best beaches (in city) in Europe. YOu can surf, swim sunbathe amongst the beautiful historical churches and buildings surrounding you.
You can drive to the airport from Irun and Hondarribia on the N638. The N638 then links up with the N1 which connects the airport with San Sebastian and the beautiful South of France.
There is one two-level terminal and the airport's runway stretches along the river Bidasoa right on the Spanish-French border.An ATM and a post office are located on the arrivals level of the terminal and the new VIP lounge seats 25 and can be hired for private or business meetings and is available for departures and arrivals, private or commercial flights.
There is no duty free facility but Aeroshops sells newspapers and magazines and local products, including wine, cider, txacoli, sweets and souvenirs.
You can fly into San Sebastian from Barcelona and Madrid Airports with Vueling and Air Nostrum LA Mediterraneo respectively. In 2015 this airport handled 255.071 passengers and 6.805 flight operations.
The nearest railway station is in the centre of San Sebastian, which can be reached by one of the buses which operate from outside the arrivals terminal.
There are always Taxis Hondarribia (the recognised airport firm) waiting in the rank. The journey into San Sebastian costs approximately €33,00 for up to 4 people.
If you prefer your own transport then you can hire a car from one of the rent a car companies (Avis, Herts, Europcar or National Atesa) who you will find in the arrivals area. To save time on arrival it is best to pre-book your car and get most of the paperwork done on line.
