To get to the centre of Ibiza which is only 7.5 km away from the airport you can take the PM801 Ibiza-Airport access road/motorway or the PM803 (Ibiza-San Jose) motorway taking the 4 km exit.

Remember when driving a hire car that your licence,vehicle and insurance documents must always be carried with you. Seat belts must always be worn whether travelling in the front or back of the car and children under 12 years of age cannot travel in the front of the car.

Always remember that roundabout roundabout has left priority and at crossroads and junctions in the towns Ceda el Paso means give wayto the right.

Parking in not easy in the busy tourist resorts like Santa Eulalia, San Antonio or the town of Ibiza town where it is pretty impossible! You can get paid for parking in the blue bays where you need to purchase and display a ticket from the machine..

You are usually allowed a maximum of two hours, but check the meter for details. Tow trucks are very quick to remove a car that is parked illegally and take it to the pound where you have to pay (lots) to get it back.

Petrol stations are mostly open from 07:00-21:00 except on Sundays and Fiestas when they take it turns to remain open. Most are open 24 hours during the high season.

The local police are very strict and quick to give on-the-spot fines for traffic offences. For example on the airport road they recently had a real crack down correct headlamps usage.

Despite all the snags and negatives I have outlined above, driving in Ibiza is pretty straightforward as long as you know and abide by the rules. I'm afraid being a foreigner is not accepted as an excuse!
