Everyone has very different requirements for their car rental. So before booking make a list of what extras you need like how many passengers will there be and will you be carrying a lot of luggage? While a fast open top sports can might be great for you it will not be quite so appropriate for long journeys or day trips with the whole family!.

Hiring a car is by far the best way to explore the north of Tenerife as you can get to places off the tourist track and not be tied to bus timetables. Make sure you get a good map and not rely on GPS and you really need to know just how good the road quality is in some of the more remote places you might want to go to. Especially if you are no in a 4 x 4.
Driving regulations in the Canary Islands are the same as for the rest of Spain. But the main points to remember are that every one in the car (front and rear)must wear seatbelts with children under 12 not allowed to sit next to the driver,

Tenerife does not have as many speed cameras as other parts of Europe as they only started installing them in 2011.
It is illegal to use a mobile telephone when driving and remember that police carry out random breath giving heavy on-the-spot fines to non-residents who are over the limit.
