Spanair Collapse Costly for Balearics Passengers

The collapse of the airline Spanair has resulted in ticket prices soaring for those who want to travel between the Balearics and the Spanish mainland. Prices as high as 700 euros have been charged for a flight from Menorca to Madrid.  For the same fare you could fly to Chicago!

Menorca is the most affected Island as it no longer offers a direct flight to Madrid. A flight via Mallorca can cost as much as 1,000 euros, although local residents  would pay half that amount with their discounts.

The Baleares administration has requested the  Ministry for Development to take immediate steps against the ridiculously high fares.

The new low-cost airline Iberia Express is being launched in March and will offer flights between Madrid and Mallorca, and Menorca and Ibiza. Orbest Airlines will cover the route between Madrid and Menorca Mahon Airport from February 13th until the end of April
