Sunday February 12th is the start of the Carnival in Mallorca.It starts in Marratxi,with the Sa Rua parade leaving from the Son Cualelles football field at 4:00 pm and passing through the streets of Portol and Cabaneta.
On Sunday 19th February the Sa Rua parade will start at 5:00 pm and pass through the centre of the city.
This carnival is held each year in the last days before Lent. It is believed to have its roots in pagan festivities and is believed to be in homage to the Bacchus, the Roman God of the grape harvest and winemaking as well as of ritual madness and ecstasy.
