All Spanair Flights Cancelled

Qatar Airways has decided not to invest 150 million euros for a 49% share in the Spanish airline Spanair and the Barcelona Generalitat regional government will no longer inject funds into the airline.  Since 2009 the Barcelona Generalitat has invested more than 100 million euros to the airline, and Qatar wanted assurances that the European Commission would not claim that money back at a later date.

As its financial situation is no longer tenable Spanair has ceased operating is suspending all its flights from 02:00 am today.

They normally operates  around 200 flights a day and employ around 4,000 people. The flights are being suspended with immediate effect as its financial situation is no longer viable with large losses and a large debt.

A statement on the carrier’s website says it suspended operations on January 28th and advises customers with reservations to contact their credit card company, insurance company or travel agency. “Due to these exceptional circumstances all our flights are canceled,” the statement said.
